Feminism or I swear I’m not making the world a worse place for women
Today I got a message from someone yelling at me for being a feminist and telling me that I am actively degrading women. I don’t think I’ve ever truly declared myself a feminist on this website but I have a horrible memory and I’m sure I have somewhere in the universe.
Feminism and me are ol’ pals. I grew up in the heyday of girl power graduating from the Spice Girls to Shirley Manson and Gwen Stefani. I wanted to be Tank Girl when I grew up. I knew women kicked ass, maybe even more so than men and that I should never let my vagina stop me from anything.
I liked erotica even before I knew what it was. I was exposed to a lot of beautiful naked women through vintage Vogues, watching the Godfather triolgy[I had to close my eyes during the violent scenes not sex] and just by being a curious kid before the age of ten. Seeing my mom naked or topless or being in her room while she dressed was never weird to me.
I was not raised to be ashamed of my nude body or sexuality.
My appreciation for nudity grew as I hit puberty and because a horny fucking teenager. I started watching porn. I knew what I liked and what I didn’t. I was coming of age when Sucide Girls was founded, I though Anna Nicole Smith was incredibly hot and watched her movie with my friends but also knew you could be outside the social norm and be sexually attractive.
I’m kind of babbling here, I’m sorry.
So here it is: I belive in equality for everyone despite racial, gender or sexual indenifciation differences. I will stand by that to the day I die.
Since I suck at expressing myself regarding this and I’ve been sick all day here are some quotes that I agree with and though were note worthy from an AVN article about Jacq Jones, a feminist who was against porn but now operates her own smut store:
“Mainstream pornography still promotes the Barbie ideal. Most of the big-name actresses have fake boobs, tiny waists and long blonde hair. At the AVN Expo this year, I sometimes felt like I was seeing the same woman over and over again. However, diversity of body type and ethnicity is slowly creeping into porn. Right now, “ethnic” films are sectioned off into separate categories. I look forward to the day when it will be more common to see women and men of color in the increasingly big-budget productions-and that we see more natural breasts or, at least, better boob jobs.
But porn is not alone in its lack of diversity. Look at Hollywood. Again, is porn reflecting our dominant culture, or is it shaping it?
People of all genders are exploited in porn. People, especially women who have limited resources, addictions, or mental illnesses, are especially vulnerable to exploitation. This happens in many other industries in the United States, including agriculture and the textile industry. Porn isn’t the only industry in which some business owners exploit workers. And not all people who work in porn are exploited.”
“Like most film and video, porn reflects the world we live in. The world we live in is riddled with oppression and other things that aren’t fun. But some porn goes further and reflects the world in which some of us want to live: a world that celebrates sex and human bodies. That’s still the exception, but we can make it the rule. Buy the porn you like, and abandon the rest. The industry listens.
I try to buy porn that has accurate representations of human pleasure. Porn that I have reason to believe has been produced in a manner that was respectful to the cast and crew. Porn that celebrates sexuality. Porn that, ultimately, is hot. Getting people off is powerful. Getting people off in a way that subverts the patriarchy is even hotter. And dangerous. And subversive. And delicious.”
. . .
In some little big news - I’m a creative director for major-fucking-star now. Expect a new level of creativity, and see me helping make whats sexy even sexier. Personally I’m very excited to work with slut momo[I have a crush on her, and her hubby is awesome] and to work with a company that presents interracial porn in a sophisticated manner.

The problem with second-wave feminists is that they do rightly see media as a shaping force of society, but they think that personal expression and desire should take a backseat to public opinion. Which is completely backwards.

you go lady! by being in control of yourself and being self aware is being more of a feminist than anyone who hides behind the word. ps the gif of beating a dead horse is hilarious. your sense of humor is always so sharp.

the fact that you believe being a fan of Tank Girl, Spice Girls, SG, and Anna Nicole means you’re into “feminism” is making me agree with the Angry Feminist. :/

You clearly mis-understood me. Also I think of myself as more an equalist than a feminist.
Feminism is many many different things, and seriously differs from person to person. If believe women are equal to men you are a feminist.

I do believe women are equal to men (when it comes to rights especially), but I am far from a feminist. The big feminist wave has washed over the sand and there are mostly fringe elements that remain in today’s day in the life.
I am, in most ways, an “equalist” as you say though… with a few exceptions probably.
